Classic Raks Sharqi  -  The Golden Era - The classic style that was birthed by the Cairo Opera, stayed constant for decades on stage and in Egyptian film. In this class you will increase your knowledge of the rich vocabulary and successful presentation of this era of dance.   By discovering what made this era great, you will be encouraged to focus on your own unique talent, the importance of projecting it in performance, and the vital connection to the culture.  You will be inspired to “take a risk” in future performances just as these dancers did, taking inspiration from their legacies.  You will also learn an exciting choreography to the famous song Andah Aliek using classic vocabulary and musical dynamics to be embellished by your stage persona and inspiration that will make your performance as golden as the golden era.  Please bring a chiffon veil (silk chiffon, 4 yards preferred however 3 yards will work), a stretchy headband (one that goes all the way around your head, like a sweatband) and a small chiffon scarf  (similar to one you would wear around your neck).            Join Nadirah Johara in this workshop as she celebrates over 20 years in Middle Eastern Dance studying in the U.S. and Egypt, and teaching in many locations in the U.S.  With a reverence for the history of the dance and a long career as a performer, teacher, and choreographer, Nadirah Johara invites all levels to participate in this special topic.
