We are thrilled to welcome the incredible Khadijah to Caravan of Dancers XIII. Khadijah is a diverse international performer, instructor, and educator specializing in the Afro-Arabic dances of North Africa, Arabian Gulf folklore (Khaleeji), and Central Asian dances. Born in Saudi Arabia (KSA) of Kenyan heritage and currently based in Denver, Colorado, Khadijah brings a unique cultural perspective and depth of knowledge to her work.

Khadijah’s approach to dance and movement goes beyond the stage, raising awareness of the African Diaspora and its deeply rooted presence within Arab culture and beyond. Dedicated to honoring the cultures represented in her work, she continuously travels, studies, and seeks knowledge from renowned dancers, musicians, and cultural practitioners. Through her teaching, Khadijah creates an experience that is energetic, educational, culturally grounded, and deeply connected to the communities from which these dances originate.

We are honored to welcome Khadijah to Caravan of Dancers XIII and excited for her to share two dynamic workshops with us: Khaleeji Social and Nubian Groove.

Khaleeji Social Workshop:

​

Step into the vibrant social dances of the Arabian Gulf in this energetic and culturally rich Khaleeji workshop. Khadijah will introduce dancers to the movement, rhythms, gestures, and social expression found throughout Khaleeji dance, with a focus on the joyful and communal spirit that makes this style so captivating.

Students will explore characteristic footwork, upper-body movement, hair and head movement, rhythmic patterns, and the subtle gestures that bring personality and authenticity to the dance. More than simply learning steps, dancers will gain cultural context and a deeper understanding of how Khaleeji dance lives within the communities and celebrations of the Arabian Gulf.

Nubian Groove Workshop​ 

​

Feel the rhythm, joy, and unmistakable groove of Nubian dance! In this high-energy workshop, Khadijah will introduce dancers to movement inspired by the rich dance and musical traditions of Nubian communities of southern Egypt and northern Sudan.

Through rhythmic footwork, grounded movement, expressive gestures, and joyful combinations, students will explore the distinctive energy and communal spirit that make Nubian dance so infectious. Khadijah will also provide cultural context to help dancers understand the people, music, and traditions behind the movement—not simply reproduce the steps.

Expect an uplifting class filled with rhythm, connection, culture, and plenty of groove. Come ready to learn, celebrate, and MOVE!
