We are honored to welcome an exceptional artist to this year’s Caravan of Dancers XI in Orlando, Egyptian Master Teacher and performer, Mohamed El Sayed.

​

Born in Cairo, Mohamed’s passion for music and dance began in childhood and followed him across continents.  After relocating to Spain, he formally trained under the legendary Shokry Mohamed, an iconic figure in the evolution of Oriental dance in Spain.  Under Shokry’s mentorship, Mohamed refined his technique and deepened his understanding of Egyptian dance and music. He also studied Sufí traditions at the Tannura School of the Mosque of Sultan El Gurí with Bondok El Asmar, and further enriched his artistry by training in percussion with world-renowned drummer Khamis Henkesh.

This year, Mohamed El Sayed will mesmerize audiences with a stunning performance and offer two unforgettable workshops, sharing his profound knowledge of Egyptian dance, rhythm, and spiritual expression.

Raqs Assaya Workshop:

Saidi Technique with Mohamed El Sayed
Dive into the earthy, powerful rhythms of Upper Egypt in this dynamic Saidi workshop. Mohamed El Sayed brings his mastery of traditional Raqs Assaya (stick dance) to life with authentic steps, grounded movement, and vibrant combinations rooted in folkloric heritage.  Students will explore the cultural context of the Saidi region while learning strong, rhythmic footwork and playful cane techniques, all guided by one of the most respected Egyptian artists in the field.

Baladi Awadi Workshop:

Feeling the Music In this soulful and expressive Baladi workshop, Mohamed El Sayed will guide dancers through the art of improvisation and musical interpretation. Focusing on Baladi Awadi, the traditional slow to fast progression. Participants will learn how to connect deeply with the tabla and other instruments, creating a heartfelt dialogue between movement and music. Mohamed’s unique approach blends technical refinement with emotional storytelling, making this workshop a must for anyone seeking to embody the essence of true Egyptian Baladi.
